Base camp – 3 July 2018

mail

We finally have news from Sophie. It is very hard to get a good connection at the base camp so we have to wait a bit longer for the first photos.

Damn Paiju!
Sometimes experiences can be different each time but other times they can constantly repeat!!
Why am I always ill between Paiju and Urdukas on this damn Baltoro glacier??

This is also the longest section of the trek, you’d think the mules or something put a curse on me every year. Diarrhoea, vomiting, unbearable stomach cramps, dehydration, basically everything! But I need to keep walking... The only slight consolation this year is the weather with the sky completely covered so not as hot.

Then we arrived at the base camp in the snow. We have had 3 days of non-stop snow with a good 50cm which made it harder to set up camp but has also allowed me to recuperate.

The weather seems to be improving since yesterday and we climbed up to the ABC (5,300m) to drop off our technical equipment. As tracks had not been made since the snowfall it took us 5 hours to get there and back.

As we had 10 Nepalese Sherpas in the team a puja ritual was required! It’s done now and we can move on with peace of mind... Inshallah!...
